This week was pretty normal, nothing too exciting. The lady that makes lunch for us has been rapidly improving her skills lately. Now that she's cooking for 2 gringos, she's learned how to make pancakes and french toast. We also taught her how to make grilled cheese sandwiches to eat with tomato soup. And yesterday, it took us like 10 minutes to try and explain to her how to make a baked potato! hahah. They don't use lots of ovens here in Nicaragua, mainly just stoves. I'm so grateful for all the lovely sisters who have made food for me and washed my clothes on the mission! It's been a HUGE blessing.
We have a baptism this upcoming Saturday of a guy named Javier. He's one of the most interesting guys I think I've ever met. We've been baptizing lots of interesting people here in this area lately! haha. Javier grew up in Guatemala in a religious school. He was offered a 2 year study program in Israel to study with the Jews, and learn about their cultural and religious beliefs. He lived for Israel for 2 years, and visited Jerusalem and many other cities with lots of religious history. He is an absolute genius, and knows everything about the Bible, but he is very humble. It has been really fun teaching him because he understands everything we teach so well. In particular, he has a profound understanding of the great apostasy from all that he learned in Israel. He understood the need for a restoration of the gospel of Jesus Christ. He has started reading the Book of Mormon, and absolutely LOVES it, because he understands the history so well. We are really excited for him because he has a huge potential to be a good member of the Church. I'll explain a little more about him next week!
