Lovin' Life in Nicaragua

Lovin' Life in Nicaragua

Monday, May 21, 2012

Hello family and friends,

This past week was pretty fulfilling because we were able to find new families to start teaching! We´ve been working more in the outskirts of town and in the mountains lately because the people are usually a lot more receptive. Poverty = Humility.
We have an investigator named Elia who is awesome. She comes to church every Sunday and brings her kids. She and two of her kids want to get baptized, but unfortunately she needs to officially file her divorce with her ex-husband and marry the man she is currently living with before she can get baptized. (In order to not be in the sin of adultery). Divorces here usually take about 2 months at  least, so unfortunately it will be a few months before we can baptize her. Who knows if Elder Real or I will still be here!
We have changes next Wednesday and Elder Real and I are sure that one of us will be leaving La Concepción. However, we won´t know for sure until next Tuesday probably.
Picture of the rainy season in Nicaragua off of the internet.
The rain has been absolutely crazy this past week! One of the days the water level was up to the curb of main street. It gets pretty difficult sometimes...especially on the roads that aren´t paved! We´ve had a couple days that we´ve come home after walking in the rain and every bit of our clothes is completely soaked. We´ve had to cover our scriptures with plastic bags so that the water that leaks through our backpacks doesn´t ruin our scriptures. The way it rains here is a lot different than in Utah. The rain is super thick and comes down all at once. After the rain, the weather is even more hot than before, because it becomes so humid. Supposedly, the rainy season lasts until November so I´m sure I´ll adjust quickly.
Thank you family for the package that you sent me! The package came on Thursday and I got it Friday from my District Leader, which was about exactly a month from the time you sent it. I was like a little 10 year old boy on Halloween night when I saw the big bag of chocolate! That night when we got home I grabbed the bag of chocolates, sat down on my bed and ate until I couldn´t eat any more. Haha. It was incredible. I have been craving chocolate and peanut butter like crazy so it´s nice to finally have some good American candy :) The crackers and cheese you sent in the package broke open at some point during shipping and the cheese got over everything! So when I opened the package everything had a layer of cheese over it haha. Luckily it wasn´t to hard to clean up and everything else was just fine. :) Thank you!
Not a whole lot else is new here...We´ve just been working hard trying to improve the work in our area. My Spanish is slowly improving...I feel like I´ve hit a little bit of a wall but hopefully with time and more studying I´ll be able to start progressing more quickly!

Your missionary loves and misses you all!
